I Used Up My Free 1GB For Photos On Picassa!

I was getting ready to upload a post and wanted to add one more picture when a warning came up that told me I had used up my free 1GB of space on Picassa. I've been blogging since 2006 and this is the first time I've encountered this problem. I found out that if you re-size your photos to 800 pixels it won't be applied to your 1gb limit but I'm not sure if that will affect the image quality. I tested one photo and it looked okay. I have a few questions for anyone who has experience with this situation.

1) If I re-size images to 800 pixels will the pictures still look okay on the blog at the x-large setting?

2) What is a safe way to free up space?

3) If I delete my old blog posts will that free up space?

4) Is there any easy way to re-size images that I've already uploaded?

I wouldn't mind paying the yearly fee to add space but if they are unable to automatically renew your plan because of a change in credit cards you won't be able to go back to your original plan (whatever that is).

I'd hate to stop blogging because of this issue. Any advice would be helpful. -thanks-Larry

this seems to be happening to a few people - I've just had the same problem and have been given some great advice on the last few posts of my blog - it's best you take a look there rather than me try and explain here - I'm currently going back through my photos and resizing, tedious but it will free storage space - you can also upload photos differently and not use picasa at all (therefore not having the storage problem) but link to flickr - Gary Jones of Walks and Wildlife does this he would be able to explain - he prefers this way as the photos look better quality - hope this has helped!

Same thing just happened to me too. For now I just link the photos through my Flickr account. It works for me for now.

Larry, I learned this lesson a long time ago and I did buy the extra storage but did not renew it when I learned all I had to do was keep my photos below that aforementioned pixel size. All my blog photos are re-sized to the smaller pixels. I use to do it individually through Microsoft pictures but since I now use Live Write I have it set to automatically re-size my photos for me. Whenever you come to my blog you are seeing my re-sized photos! If you have a windows based program and have Microsoft office in your options just go to Microsoft pictures and then go to the "edit" option after you have loaded your photos into a file. There will be an option in the sub menu for you to re-size them. Troy taught me this a long time ago. Also, I think you will get a fresh gigabyte of storage after the new year. I never go into Picassa but you might be able to re-size things in there. I also re-size photos when I email them. Good luck!

Kathie-thanks for the iformation.I went back to check some of my photos and it looks as though they've been automatically reduced any way.Maybe just one of those temporary blogger glitches.I'll just reduce them before I upload them.

Yep, I've been resizing down to 500 pixels as the largest dimension for the past year. It has nothing to do with the quality you see on the web. You could resize them to 100 and they would be okay. You just can't print them from that size with any quality. It's a good way to keep your photos from being pirated also.
