Songbird Mix Game

Name the song that the lyrics belong to and/or an artist who performed it. Let us know which ones you knew, even if it has already been answered: Blue=Unanswered Grey=incomplete Black=already answered

1) He's got a daughter he calls Easter-She was born on a Tuesday night

2) Goddess on the mountain top -Burning like a silver flame

3) Desmond has a barrow in the market place-Molly is the singer in a band-Desmond says to Molly - girl I like your face-And Molly says this as she takes him by the hand-

4) If you believe in forever-Then life is just a one-night stand

5) "No reason to get excited," the thief, he kindly spoke, "There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke-

6) Well no one told me about her -the way she lied-Well no one told me about her how many people cried

7)Ain't got no trouble in my life-No foolish dream to make me cry-I'm never frightened or worried-I know I'll always get by

8) You fill up my senses- like a night in the forest-like the mountains in springtime-like a walk in the rain

9)I can't light no more of your darkness-All my pictures seem to fade to black and white-I'm growing tired and time stands still before me-Frozen here on the ladder of my life

10)I’m gonna wait 'til the stars come out-See them twinkle in your eyes

11) Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day -You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way

12) There's a tear in your eye, And I'm wondering why, For it never should be there at all. With such pow'r in your smile, Sure a stone you'd beguile, So there's never a teardrop should fall

13) Mama told me, when I was young-Come sit beside me, my only son-And listen closely, to what I say. And if you do this-It will help you some sunny day

14)I searched everywhere- but none can compare..

15)Well, I heard some people talkin' just the other day- And they said you were gonna put me on a shelf- But let me tell you I got some news for you- And you'll soon find out it's true -And then you'll have to eat your lunch all by yourself

16) Has he lost his mind? Can he see or is he blind? Can he walk at all, Or if he moves will he fall?

17) With the thoughts you'll be thinkin'-you could be another Lincoln

18)Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan-Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan-Got what it takes to make a Mountain Man leave his home

19) Making your way in the world today Takes everything you've got; Taking a break from all your worries -Sure would help a lot

20) Something inside is telling me that I've got your secret. Are you still listening?

Famous Poems:

1)And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each purple curtain Thrilled me - filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;

2) Oh, no! it is an ever-fixed mark -That looks on tempests.. and is never shaken. It is the star to every wandering bark--Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken

Good luck! I have to work this weekend so I probably won't get to another post until Monday.

Larry - You know what a hopeless moron I am with song lyrics, BUT I had to share that when I first clicked on your blog I saw the Flicker and (Oh My.) . . . I thought he was . . . well . . . . he kinda looked like he was (sorry) . . . . hanging there. You know . . . his position . . . the chain. Maybe I need new glasses :0)

Great shot! I love Flickers, they are very distinctive woodpeckers.

jKarl-thanks-It's probably my favorite visitor to the suet.

Whew! :0D

They were all great lyrics and made me smile, but the only one that I am sure about is that Number 8 is Annie's Song by John Denver.

Hi Larry, not so good with the lyric-thing, but just love the flicker on the suet feeder. He is beautiful! I have them in my area, but they only seem to visit my yard in the Spring.

Poem #1: The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe. I'll have to look up the second poem. Love the flicker! Good photo!

Lynne's the undisputed queen of this game!

#2 - sung by Banarama?
#4 - sung by the Righteous Brothers?
#15 - Already Gone - The Eagles

I didn't know any of the others that Lynne didn't get - not even a glimmer of recognition (sigh)

Mary-Trust me-she'll be here any minute now-with lots of answers!

beth-nice contribution! Thanks for playing along.

aunt B-They are supposed to be less common in Connecticut during the winter but they seem to make it to my suet feeder o.k.--thanks.

Patrice-Good job with the answer-thanks for the photo comment-you'll have to look back a ways to get the 2nd poem.

Sandpiper-thanks-maybe you can join in on the quiz next time.

Lynne-You're in the zone!-One of those songs is from a popular old movie.-you're right about your instincts on #12-it is like an introduction to a very common Irish ditty-most people just sing the chorus.

ruthiej-At least you made a nice contribution to the game-thanks!

Jayne-Right you are! Good Job!

As for the famous poems, #2 is Sonnet 116 by Willie the Shake. It's a favorite.

Songs:

#11 is something off The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd

#17 If I Only Had A Brain from the Wizard of Oz

I'm hopeless at this sort of quiz so I didn't even try but I did like the Flicker photo. Except that now that I have a Flickr account my fingers want to spell the name without the E.

Larry said...

Trixie-Excellent! Still need the title for the floyd song though.

Sarala-Your not alone-memorizing song lyrics is not for everyone.--Glad you liked the Flickr photo!

12. When Irish Eyes are Smiling/ Joe Feeney from the Lawrence Welk Show

I had to look through all of my Mom's old Lawrence Welk albums to find this one!

10. I found Midnight Hour on an old BB King album but it's not the version that I can hear in my mind. Who did the most popular copy?

Larry said...

lynne-nicely done! Wilson picket did the most known version.

I love the Cheers theme!! Hope your weekend goes well, despite having to work!

Of course, others are terribly familiar, but I can't quite place them. I don't know about the poems.

Larry said...

lana-Looks like you were familiar with most of these.-You answered two new ones with the Pink Floyd song title and the Led Zeppelin-#18

Good guess on number 16-it does seem to fit but the song is actually from an older 70's rock group that was darker and heavier than Styx.I am surpised no one has guessed #20 which is by a group that was featured in the original Woodstock concert.

Kathie Brown said...

Larry, not good with pop songs and I'm ashamed I didn't get the poems. Yeah Patrice! I did know Annie's Song by John Denver and of course, "If I Only Had a Brain" from the Wizard of Oz. Now,if I only had a brain I could've answered these better! Oh, well, back to my birds...

Judy Blue Eyes sung by Crosby Stills and Nash is number 20!

Larry said...

hawkmom-Terrific!The game is nearly complete!

Larry; Being a New Orleans resident (at least BEFORE Katrina,) I couldn't NOT know "When the Levee Breaks." *LOL*

Well, there's only one blue song left, #16 and I'd have to say that it's Iron Man by Black Sabbath.

Hm, what else. Oh, incomplete #19 I always heard it was woody harrelson singing, but someone corrected me on that point, so now I know this answer "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" by Gary Portnoy and Judy Hart Angelo

fun game, awesome blog. thanks!
