The woods surrounding the campground consist mostly of tall pine trees. The area was alive with the sound of birds. Finding them was a challenge and photographing them was a lost cause for me. Some of the birds I saw or heard were: Pine Warbler, Palm Warblers, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Black-throated green Warblers, Black and White Warblers, Yellow-throated Vireos, Red-breasted & White-breasted Nuthatches, Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, and Hermit Thrush. Common Mergansers would fly up the river, float back down, and then repeat the process. Belted Kingfishers rattled out there calls from select branches along the river. I could hear Pileated Woodpeckers off in the distance. Large oval holes chiseled into dead trees was another sign I was in their territory.
When I arrived home, My mother-in-law asked me what the unusual looking bird sitting on my lawn was? I was impressed that as a non-birder she noticed what turned out to be a pretty good bird to find in my yard. It was an Eastern Towhee welcoming me back home.

( I've been having a difficult time with blogger lately. There has been unwanted space between the photos and text that doesn't appear until I post it).-update-switching to new editor seems to have fixed the problem.

Thanks for taking us along on your camping trip...sometimes sitting out a rain storm is the only way we take time to sit, read and relax. I think that is why I like to go out on the boat for a week or two...no TV or radio...just books and relaxation.
Except for the rain part it sounds like you had a great camping trip. Great bird sightings and photos. What a nice welcome home.
I'm having the exact same problem with blogger! (Plus its not letting me comment on some people's blogs!). Ospreys are magnificent birds aren't they? Shocking that people are so careless with fishing line and other waste.
Still "floppin' fresh" is right; great stil and video of the osprey!
You are a good camp cook, but if your spring has been as wet as ours, I think I would pass on the experience.(even with all those bird sightings) The Osprey poster certainly is disturbing.
Thankyou for taking me along your campaign trip

Nice Towhee greeting!
Are you using Windows Live writer now for your blog posts?
Rain or no, the whole thing seems to have been wonderful. I haven't gone camping in far too long...
That certainly is an effective photo. I've seen more than a few gulls tangled by fishing line.
Haven't been by here in awhile. Looks like I have some rainy day reading to catch up on.
Bird-watching is a hobby to you, huh? How can you point them out from a distance? You have a pretty laid-back lifestyle there. I like it.
