This Baltimore Oriole was a nice surprise. I've put orange slices and grape jelly out many times trying to attract Orioles. It never worked. Flickers ate the oranges and catbirds ate the jelly. I had no idea that they would eat peanuts. This picture was taken just before a European Starling chased it off. Even though I took the picture through a closed window on what is a cloudy day, the bright orange color still showed up nicely.

I would be delighted to see this bird in my backyard! Have to get some peanuts. I am so tired of the squirrels and house sparrows hogging my feeders that I took them down.

From what I understand, orange halves and grape jelly are the way to go with these birds.-Even hummingbird nectar.-I'm not sure about peanuts.I might have just been lucky.

I go through lots of grape jelly for the orioles until about the middle of summer, then they stop eating it. I still see them in the yard but they're up in the tree canopy eating insects. Lovely birds!

You are lucky to have them Lynne.-In my yard they are just an occasional surprise.-I've seen them eat crabapple tree blossoms and mimosa flowers.-just no luck with jelly or oranges.

Oh Larry! So funny that you posted this yesterday. I had friends visiting when I glanced outside and saw... yes, my first Oriole on my feeders! I sprung for the camera, but by the time I got to the deck, he was gone. :c( I guess he realized there was nothing there for him. I do have a peanut feeder up, but still put out an orange slice in one of my cups on the four way feeder in hopes that he might return today. Beautiful shot! I want one tooooooo! Waaaaahhhhaaa!

You're waaay ahead of us. No orioles in northwest Ohio. Isn't it neat the way you can get a pix through a window? Many of my 'fun' pixes on my blog are 'window' pixes.

Peanuts - who'd have thought?
