Ok - I can't guess the scientific names but I know my songs and Lynne wins the prize!

Ruth&Lynne-Good job with the bird songs.
Mary-Sorry you showed up too late-maybe I'll do some more.

For those of you that don't want to try scientific names-The answers to some are ight in the names if you look at them closely.

I need to visit with you earlier, Larry - my brain is fried by this point in the day.

Will check back tomorrow when maybe I'll be thinking more clearly. I want that to be a spotted sandpiper, because I saw one today at the office, but it's too big, so I'll guess yellowlegs.

?

1.
2. g) Melospiza melodia (melodia=melodic/song)
3. b) Pipilo erythrophthalmus (my guess because erythro=red)
4.
5.
6.
7. a) Dendroica pinus (my guess because pinus=pine)
8. d) Dendroica palmarum (my guess because palmarum=palm)

I only knew #2- the rest are guesses!

Though length of bill can be deceptive on a photograph by the plumage it certainly seems to be a Juvenile. My guess is that this picture was taken in the fall? If not, then I have to go hit the books again!

It was taken in the fall.

Hmm...I wouldn't discount Lesser Yellowlegs. The bill doesn't seem too long but 'photos' CAN be deceiving! I sway more towards Lesser. The pattern on the breast is more blotchy to my eye..the bill is straightish...Ok..I am going Lesser Yellowlegs on this one. Did it call? And yes, it's a juv! Cheers RM

I looked back on some notes when this was taken.-I'm not good with shorebird i.d. but was with someone who was.-The majority of yellowlegs were lesser during this time.

Thanks Larry. They are tough at the best of times, photos always add another challenge. I am slowly but surely adding to my flicker site attached to my blog. Have a look sometime..Cheers..RM
